Practice areas

Six areas, all for businesses.

We do not act for individuals. Each area is led by a partner, who stays on the matter from the first call to the end.

1.Commercial disputes

Claims about money or performance under a contract, usually worth between £25,000 and £2 million.

  • Unpaid invoices and debt recovery over £25,000
  • Breach of contract and warranty claims
  • Disputes with suppliers and customers over defective goods
  • Injunctions to stop the misuse of confidential information

Led by Catherine Whitmore. Charged by the hour, with a written estimate for each stage.

2.Shareholder and partnership disputes

Disputes between the people who own a business.

  • Deadlock between equal shareholders
  • Unfair prejudice petitions
  • Removing a director
  • Negotiated exits and share valuations

Led by Simon Achebe, who is also an accredited mediator.

3.Corporate

Buying, selling and investing in private companies.

  • Share and asset sales
  • Management buyouts
  • Investment rounds and the documents that go with them
  • Shareholders’ agreements

Led by David Pierce. Fixed fee once the scope is agreed.

4.Commercial contracts

Contracts your business sends out or is asked to sign.

  • Terms and conditions of business
  • Supplier, distribution and agency agreements
  • Software and service agreements
  • Reviewing a contract before you sign it, usually within two working days

Led by Joanna Fenn. Fixed fee.

5.Employment

Advice to employers. We do not act for employees.

  • Dismissals and disciplinary processes
  • Employment tribunal claims
  • Restrictive covenants when senior staff leave
  • Settlement agreements

Led by Rachel Lowe. Tribunal claims have a three-month time limit, so call rather than email.

6.Commercial property

Business premises, for tenants and landlords.

  • New leases and lease renewals
  • Rent reviews
  • Dilapidations claims at the end of a lease
  • Buying and selling commercial property

Led by Mark Henshaw. Fixed fee for leases, hourly for disputes.
