Studio

Seven people in a former print works in Bedminster.

Helen Aldern and Tom Rowe started the practice in 2011. We take on about twelve projects a year, so the person who draws your house also runs it on site.

How a project runs

Typical length
  1. 01

    Feasibility

We survey the house, then sketch options over a fortnight. You get a written note of what is likely to get planning and roughly what it would cost to build.

    2 to 4 weeks
  2. 02

    Planning

The application drawings, and a conversation with the planning officer before anything is submitted.

    8 to 20 weeks
  3. 03

    Technical design

The drawings a builder prices from. We send them to three builders and go through the quotes with you.

    6 to 10 weeks
  4. 04

    On site

We visit every fortnight and sign off each stage before the builder is paid for it.

Fees

Usually 10 to 14% of the build cost, for the full service.

Feasibility is a fixed £1,800. If you go ahead, we take it off the full fee.
